UniSG's SIMAGINATION
-- CORPORATE/UNIVERSITY --
Description: My first ground-up development for Icon Worldwide. The University of St. Gallen's Master of Arts in Strategy and International Management program needed a website for their students to blog about their ideas and projects that intend to improve lives in developing nations.
Client Goals: To create a flexible base for students to share about their experiences, while still allowing the site to promote the program to possible investors and partners.
Actions: Wordpress custom theming from thin (yet tasty) Swiss air.
Experience: My first go at a complete custom wordpress theme, and it had to be delivered in one week. Meeting strict deadlines, prioritizing tasks among other smaller intermittent projects, working with web designers (such a joy), and understanding the roles and desires of the client, myself, the designers, and the project manager.
SOUNDS OF BLISS (In Development)
-- CORPORATE --
Description: An Atlanta-based wedding/events DJ company came to me with the task of a website upgrade from their previous iWeb site.
Client Goals: Smooth, simple, open design. "We want people to feel comfortable working with us knowing that we go the extra mile to add a personal touch to their events."
Actions: Custom wordpress design based off an existing theme.
Experience: Learned how to use communication with "non-techies" to convey an overall sense of the benefits and confines of Content Management Systems, and the practices of web design and development.
BOOTEES
-- CORPORATE --
Description: Australian artist Philomena Kwok needed a remake of her one-off item Bootees, character-based creatures that stand inside boots when they're in the closet. Already with a webmaster, she came to me for the graphic design portion of her website, to fill in the blanks and create a warm and playful mood.
Client Goals: Looking at it from the standpoint of a possible "for-sale" company, the site needed to appeal to investors, allow interested parties to purchase items from the store, and create a fun environment for visitors.
Actions: Graphic design for most elements on the site.
Experience: Learned how to handle freelance clients independently and create growing relationships with them. Also performed a lot of slicing and dicing of PSDs for web entanglement.
LOOURE.COM
-- PERSONAL --
Description: A friend and collaborator, Laurie Shapiro, came to me with a need for a minimal portfolio site, she received just that.
Client Goals: Not a "techy" in the slightest, the site needed to be set up for an artist with an evergrowing portfolio comprised of mostly photos of past work. It also will serve as her base for studios/residencies to view once she graduates from Carnegie Mellon.
Actions: Design and minor programming to pre-existing Wordpress theme.
Experience: Knowing that she needed a quick website to manage herself, I chose to go with Wordpress as a CMS. Because she had a large amount of photosets on Flickr, using a gallery plugin to automatically draw her new sets in with one line of block code made this a simple and easy set up for both of us.
BIRDSEY PRESERVATION PARTNERS
-- CORPORATE --
Description: First go at a freelance web project, this website was built for an emerging property preservation service.
Client Goals: The website needed to be a "sister site" of an existing company the client worked for. Simple, informative, and with the ability for a signup form for customers.
Actions/Experience: With access to the related site, this was more or less a graphic design job with the small challenge of working with refactored php code.
ETV GHANA
-- ENTERTAINMENT --
Description: My first project for Global Media Alliance based in Accra, Ghana.
Client Goals: The new free-by-air nationwide television station needed a website that was easy on the eyes, informative of the programming schedule, and embodied a level of quality that was superior to its competitors.
Actions: Complete design and programming. Later transfer to the Joomla CMS.
Experience: My first few days in Ghana and a 60+ page website had to be built by the end of the week. I had never built a website before. It was a challenge, and I learned a lot about what to do (and what not to do) when handcoding HTML and CSS files. The later transfer to Joomla was a blessing in that it allowed me to move on to other projects the company needed to focus on while the content manager handled the updates to the site.
GLOBAL MEDIA ALLIANCE
-- CORPORATE --
Description: Last project for Global Media Alliance, they needed their corporate page redesigned and programmed.
Client Goals: The company asked me to evaluate some of the best corporate websites and create a design that was equivalent in style, but different and better in an original way.
Actions: Design and transfer to the new webmaster.
Experience: With my internship almost over, I focused mostly on the design of the site, knowing that a new head of IT was to arrive a few days before my departure from the company. I learned a lot about having realistic expectations for the transfer from design to programming, and knowing a brand's core values and approach to its market.
BODEGAROJA.com
-- ENTERTAINMENT --
Programming and design. Sometimes all you need is a logo.
Description: Bodega Roja, a band on the rise in Atlanta, needed a website to connect online music listeners and venue booking agents to their various online networks.
Client Goals: Straightforward, literally just a portal to all places Bodega on the web.
Actions/Experience: With a personal involvement with the brand (I was the percussionist), I knew exactly what we needed, and set it up so people could see exactly what part of the band's online presence they wanted.
